The Department of Urdu was established in 1971 and is one of the Major language departments of L. B. Aney Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Yavatmal. In Yavatmal city, this is the solitary college for girls having the subjects Urdu and Urdu literature for Muslim girls who cannot go out of town for further higher education. Since, its establishment the Department has played an important role in all-round development of students. The Department has always been putting all the efforts for students’ development; as a result many students have stood in the merit list at the University level. It is also the achievement of the Department that many alumni have secured good jobs. In 2013, the Department has organised one Day National Urdu Seminar with the title “The Role of Urdu Poetry in National Integration and Communal Harmony". One of its kind, it was the first National Urdu Seminar in all the Urdu departments of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University.

• To motivate and prepare students for Post-Graduate Studies.
• To impart quality education at all levels of teaching to all strata of the students.
• To generate interest in Urdu language and literature at higher level of learning.
• To organize seminars, conferences, workshops and Mushairas for students’ all-round development.
• To create awareness among students about how to get earning through Urdu language in various fields.
• To conduct visiting lectures for students by eminent Urdu scholars.
